B101 Soft Rock

In May 1997 while on the air at WXPN, I answered the listener request line and the director of B101 introduced himself. He wondered if I'd be interested in coming to work there. Like many Soft Rock stations it had a large listenership and was rated the number one most listened to station in Philadelphia. The music format wasn't really my cup of tea. However, being recruited by such a prestigious station was kind of a big deal. So I didn't know what to say, but made an appointment to meet and talk about it.
I knew I didn't want to leave 'XPN or my new adjunct professorship at Rowan University. So I suggested that maybe I could host a weekend shift if WXPN was okay with it. Which they were because of the drastically different formats. So then I was working as an air talent on B101 too. Which over time expanded into other roles including working with the promotions department and hosting station events.
Then two years later I learned of a job opening at Burlington County College. Their radio station was looking for a Station Director. And they were having trouble finding a suitable candidate that met their two main requirements: radio experience and a master's degree. Since I had both, I applied for the position.
And that changed everything ...
